After vanishing from Astros fans when the team left the Astrodome following the 1999 season for Minute Maid Park, Orbit made his first appearance in front of a school full of kids Thursday at Woodcreek Middle School in Atascocita on the Astros CAREavan.

“It went well. The kids were well behaved,” Orbit said after the event.
Not surprisingly kids can present the biggest challenge to a successful outing.
“That’s why we have the principal get in front of the kids before any event to lay the ground rules,” Orbit said. “Otherwise we’d have to have handlers out there with me and that can take a lot of the fun out of it.”
For a first outing, Orbit played the crowd like a veteran as expected. The man behind the alien has prior experience as a mascot for a professional team and has worked plenty of events like the one at Woodcreek.
