Brandon Barnes has been wowing fans at Minute Maid Park all year with his sensational catches in center field. Count Angels outfielder Mike Trout as one of Barnes’ admirers.

Trout, who has been known to make an incredible catch or two, witnessed two of Barnes’ better catches on Friday night.

“He’s out there trying to catch everything,” said Trout. “He’s got some good speed, good first jump and he makes plays. I hope he keeps it going.”

Barnes made two highlight plays in the third inning on Friday, robbing Hank Conger of extra bases and J.B. Shuck of a single.

Barnes ran full speed trying to chase the ball hit by Conger. Barnes caught up with the ball in deep left-center, reached up and made the catch just as he was hitting the outfield wall. Barnes came directly in from center on his second great catch. Just as it looked like the ball was about to drop in for a hit, Barnes dove for the ball and made the catch for the third out.

“He covers a lot of ground,” said Trout.

And so does Trout. Trout’s leaping catch in left-center to end the seventh inning off a hard liner from Matt Dominguez saved a run for the Angels.

Trout said he keeps a close tab on all the center fielders.

“It feels good to look on SportsCenter and see a center fielder on top 10 (plays),” said Trout.
