With Jose Altuve not in the starting lineup, Jimmy Paredes was batting second in the order on Thursday afternoon against the Baltimore Orioles.

Playing right field, Paredes was batting second in the lineup for the seventh time this season. Paredes has batted in the seventh hole in 14 starts.

“I moved him up to the 2-hole today after we found out that we were going to give Altuve the day off,” said Astros manager Bo Porter. “I like having a switch hitter in that spot rather than putting Gonzo (Marwin Gonzalez) or (Ronny) Cedeno in that spot. I like Gonzo in the 9-hole.”

Altuve, who plays second base, aggravated his groin running to first base in his last at-bat in Wednesday’s 11-7 win over Baltimore. A game the Astros had six home runs.

Paredes, who went 1-for-3 in his last start on Tuesday, has made 20 starts in right field and one start at third base since his recall on May 6.
