After a rough start to the Astros' homestand, Matt Dominguez came through for the team on Saturday.
The third baseman was hitless in nine plate appearances in two games against the Diamondbacks on June 11-12. The June 12 game was a particularly tough, with three strikeouts and two bases-loaded, double-play outs to fill out his five plate appearances.
On Saturday, however, faced with a two-out, bases-loaded situation in the third, Dominguez lofted a ball just to the right of the Crawford Boxes. It came inches short of being a grand slam. Still, the hit cleared the bases as Dominguez got a double on the play. It also extended the Astros' lead to 5-1. Dominguez finished with two hits on Saturday.
"It was outstanding," Bo Porter said. "He obviously had a couple of days there where he wasn't seeing the ball too well. I felt like he did a great job of making them get the ball up today and the bases-clearing double was a huge hit at that moment of the game."
"It was nice," Dominguez said. "As long as we're winning, it's not a big deal. So as long as I'm helping the team win with the big hit today, whatever. It was good."
