Former Astros first round pick Delino DeShields, Jr, has spent a lifetime in the shadow of his fathers athletic success, and now, despite being picked No. 8 overall in the 2010 MLB draft and stealing over 100 bases last year it turns out he might not be the best athlete among the kids.
Delino’s sister, Diamond DeShields, was named the 2013 State Farm/WBCA High School Player of the Year.
Diamond, who is listed as being five inches taller than Delino, Jr, is a shooting guard at Norcross (Georgia) High School, averaging 26 points, seven rebounds and 4.5 steals per game.
Diamond, who has committed to the University of North Carolina, is listed as the No. 3 recruit in the nation by ESPN hoopgurlz.com, and is the top ranked shooting guard in the country.
While the Player of the Year honor is the latest for Diamond, it is hardly her only one this year. She was also named a McDonald’s All American, a Naismith Award finalist and 2013 Miss Georgia Basketball among others.
This is going to be an interesting sibling rivalry to keep an eye on.
