The Astros will bring up outfielder Trevor Crowe and right-handed pitcher Jorge De Leon as part of their September call-ups. Both players come from Triple A Oklahoma City and will be active on Sunday. Both have played this season for the Astros.
Astros manager Bo Porter made the announcement following Saturday’s 3-1 loss to the Mariners, the Astros’ fifth straight loss and third straight to the Mariners.
Rosters can expand from 25 to 40 players starting on Sept. 1. Crowe, 29, and De Leon, 26, are the first of the call-ups. Another wave of players will join the Astros after their playoffs end on the minor league level.
The switch-hitting Crowe hit .200 in 70 at-bats for the Astros. In the minors this season Crowe was hitting .303 in 241 at-bats.
De Leon has made two relief appearances for the Astros. In two games and 1 2/3 innings, De Leon allowed two earned runs. In 41 games, 38 in relief, De Leon was 0-3 with a 3.46 ERA in the minors.
