The Astros have two of their key players back in the lineup on Friday at Oakland as Jason Castro and Matt Dominguez both missed the last three games. Castro, who will hit cleanup as the designated hitter, missed games after having a cyst in the medial aspect of his right knee drained. Third baseman Dominguez, who was suffering from a sinus illness, is batting fifth in the order against Oakland right-hander A.J. Griffin (12-9, 3.84 ERA). Castro, an All-Star catcher this season, has hit safely in 10 of his last 12 games with four home runs and 10 RBIs. Since Aug. 19, Castro leads the majors in batting average (.432), slugging percentage (.919) and OPS (1.452). Dominguez is batting .313 in his last eight games.

Left-hander Dallas Keuchel (5-8, 4.77 ERA) goes for Houston, which has won three of its last four games at O.co Coliseum in Oakland. Houston started the season 0-10 against Oakland. Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is 11-for-22 in five September games. For the month, Altuve leads the American League in hits (11) and is tied for first with second-year Angels outfielder Mike Trout in batting average at .500. Altuve has committed only one error in his last 47 games.

Despite Thursday’s 3-2 loss to the Astros, the A’s have won five of their last seven games and are 8-3 over their last 11 games. Oakland is in second place in the AL West, trailing Texas by a half game. Coco Crisp has 17 runs, eight home runs and 14 RBIs over his last 15 games. Brandon Moss has eight home runs and 17 RBIs over his last 17 games. Griffin has allowed a major-league high 33 home runs this season. The most home runs allowed by an Oakland pitcher in a season is 39 by Jim Catfish Hunter in 1973.
