Travis Blackley just joined the Astros and he's already going to the disabled list.

Blackley, who the Astros just traded for, strained his left shoulder during a bullpen session on Friday and has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.

"He felt some discomfort yesterday when he threw his bullpen, and when you get someone from someplace else and they feel discomfort, you don’t want to chance it, so we’d rather be safe than sorry and make sure that we protect him as well," manager Bo Porter said.

When he eventually can pitch, Blackely will wear No. 54 with the Astros. He was 6-4 with a 4.10 ERA in 28 games, including 15 starts, with San Francisco and Oakland in 2012.

With Blackley on the DL, the Astros have recalled lefty Dallas Keuchel from Triple-A Oklahoma City. He will be available for Saturday night's game against the Athletics. Keuchel made 16 starts for the Astros in 2012, going 3-8 with a 5.27 ERA.'

"He’s built up as a starter which gives us a guy down in the bullpen that can be a long reliever, and that’s a role in which he would fill coming in here from Triple-A," Porters said.
