Both the Astros and Rangers have something to play for on Wednesday night when the teams meet at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The Rangers are fighting for a wild-card spot in the playoffs and the Astros, with 107 losses, are trying not to set a franchise record for most losses in a season as they attempt to snap a season-high 11-game losing streak. The 7:07 p.m. game is the final road game of the season for the Astros and concludes a seven-game road trip.

The Astros have had a rough time with the Rangers this season as the Rangers enjoy a 16-2 advantage in the final game of six series between the division rivals. The Astros are 1-7 at Rangers Ballpark with the Houston win on July 6 started by left-hander Dallas Keuchel (6-9), who starts tonight. Keuchel did not get the decision in July, allowing only two runs in five innings. Keuchel was credited with a complete game in his last start on Sept. 20, in Houston’s 2-1 loss at Cleveland in a game shortened by rain in the seventh inning. Batting second on Wednesday for the Astros, second baseman Jose Altuve is 37-for-99 in September with eight doubles. Catcher Cody Clark is making his 10th start with the Astros and has thrown out seven of 11 attempting base stealers.

The Rangers’ 16 wins versus the Astros is one of 10 instances in the division era (since 1969) for a team to win at least 16 games against an opponent in a season. The Indians are also 16-2 against the Chicago White Sox in 2013 entering their final meeting tonight. The Rangers have started September 7-15 after going an American League-best 20-7 in August. The Rangers have won two straight games at home after losing seven in a row.
