Both the Astros and Angels are on a hot streak entering Friday night’s 7:10 p.m. game at Minute Maid Park, with the Astros coming off a three-game series sweep at Seattle and the Angels winning three straight at Toronto. Houston left-hander Dallas Keuchel (5-9) will oppose left-hander Jason Vargas (8-6) as the Astros open a six-game homestand.

Houston outfielder Robbie Grossman will miss his ninth straight game due to a strained right oblique. Catcher Jason Castro will miss his eighth game in a 10-day stretch after having a cyst in his right knee drained on Sept. 3.

On Friday the Astros completed the July 29 trade with Detroit, acquiring minor league RHP David Paulino as the player to be named in the trade for outfielder Danry Vasquez for right-hander Jose Veras.

The Angel, who are 15-5 over their last 20 games, have gone unbeaten in six straight series (5-0-1), their longest streak this season. Mark Trumbo has an eight-game hit streak with four home runs, four doubles and nine RBIs. Josh Hamilton is batting .344 over his last 31 games and Kole Calhoun is batting .388 (26-for-67) over his last 21 games. Mike Trout’s .365 batting average since the All-Star break is second-best in the American League. Trout scored his 100th and 101st runs on Wednesday, becoming the third Angel with 100 runs in consecutive seasons, joining Don Baylor (1978, ’79) and Troy Glaus (2000, ’01).
