Giving back to the community is important to Astros manager Bo Porter and his wife, Stacey.
On Monday, they held the Bo Porter Celebrity Golf Classic at Wildcat Golf Club. Several current and former athletes attended, including current Astros players Matt Dominguez, Jarred Cosart, Brett Wallace, Robbie Grossman, Josh Zeid and Mark Appel and former Astros Enos Cabell, Phil Garner and Larry Dierker.
The event benefitted the Bo Porter S.E.L.F. Foundation (stands for Sports, Education, Life Skills and Faith). The couple has been involved in mentoring and coaching young student-athletes since their days attending the University of Iowa. In November, they hosted a charity dinner entitled “A Legacy Lasts Forever” where they honored Bo’s former University of Iowa football coach Hayden Fry.
Of course Porter was excited about his first-ever golf tournament.
“When you think back to when we started the foundation back in July of 2012 and you just look at the progress that has been made, it's definitely a tribute to our board and to the community that has come out in great numbers to back the events we've had.”
