After a much needed day off Thursday, the Astros return to action when they begin a four-game series with the Chicago White Sox at Minute Maid Park on Friday.
Houston is coming off a stretch in which it played 20 games in 20 days, ending with a 1-5 record on the road against the Royals and Mariners. The Astros (23-44) won the last game of their road trip when they rallied for six runs in the ninth for a 6-1 win over Seattle.
"It's never too late when you're able to put together a six-run inning, especially after the woes we've had the last two games,'' manager Bo Porter said.
In their five losses on this last road trip, Houston’s offense was stagnant, having only scored six total runs in five games, including two shutouts, before the bats woke up in Wednesday night’s win.
The White Sox (28-35) have experienced their own offensive woes this season but have scored 26 runs with nine home runs over their last five games. Houston native Adam Dunn has gone 8-for-15 with four homers and seven RBIs to help his team win three of four before being rained out on Wednesday and a day off on Thursday.
Despite Houston's poor offense as well as defense away from home, the starting pitching continued to impress.
Below are the probable pitching matchups for the upcoming series versus the White Sox.
(Note: Chicago is starting four southpaws against Houston in the series. Versus lefties, the Astros rank among the majors' top 10 with a .274 batting average but have hit .224 against them since May 26. Carlos Corporan (.359 in 39 at-bats) and Brandon Barnes (.357 in 42 at-bats) lead the way in this category.)
