What is Dancing With the 'Stros?
A handful of Astros will soon put on their dancing shoes.
All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve, pitchers Jarred Cosart and Dallas Keuchel, infielder Jake Elmore and outfielder Trevor Crowe will participate in the first-ever Dancing with the 'Stros. The Astros Foundation is hosting the charitable event at the House of Blues on Sunday, Sept. 15 following Houston's 1:10 p.m. game against the Los Angels of Anaheim. Astros sideline reporter Julia Morales and CSN anchor Steve Bunin will serve as the emcees.
Each of the players will select his own music and style of dance and will be paired with a professional dancer to learn a routine in just one hour before performing and being judged by their fellow teammates. In addition to all of the 2013 Astros players, the team’s owners, coaches, executives and alumni will also be on hand, as well as Minute Maid executives and employees, Comcast SportsNet, generous sponsors, Astros fans and local charitable champions.
Supporting sponsors of Dancing with the ‘Stros Presented by Minute Maid include Comcast Sports Net, Platinum Pools, Sysco Corporation, Capital One, Bill and Sara Morgan, Silver Eagle Distributors, Barefoot Wines, House of Blues, and Lummis Transportation.
A limited number of tickets must be purchased in advance; they will not be available for purchase at the event. The doors to the main House of Blues concert hall will open at 6 p.m. for a cocktail reception. Door prices will also be given away at the reception. The main show is currently scheduled to begin around 7:30 p.m.
This event will highlight the new strategic focus of the community partnership between Houston-based Minute Maid and The Astros Foundation to support an expansion of programming and outreach to at-risk youth by the official team charity’s Urban Youth Academy. Details of the new partnership will be announced at Sunday's event.
