The Astros closed out the Florida portion of the spring schedule with a split in their split-squad games, beating Detroit 11-4 while losing to Atlanta 2-0.
In the Detroit game, the Astros hit four home runs, two by Jonathan Singleton. Jason Castro added his team-leading sixth home run and Rick Ankiel hit his fourth. Ankiel finished the game with four RBIs.
Philip Humber went six innings in his final tune-up before the season starts. Humber threw four scoreless innings before running into trouble and giving up four unearned runs in the fifth.
C.J. Fick, Wesley Wright and Jason Stoffel each pitched a scoreless inning in relief of Humber.
In the other game, Lucas Harrell gave up a pair of runs, one earned, in his six innings pitched. Harrell was unable to get the support that Humber received, though, as Atlanta held the Astros to six hits, all singles.
The Braves got on the board first with an unearned run. Justin Upton singled and eventually scored on a wild throw by Brandon Barnes off a single by Freddie Freeman.
Andrelton Simmons added to the Braves’ lead in the third with a solo home run.
The Astros will travel back to Houston for an exhibition game with the Chicago Cubs on Friday night at Minute Maid Park. The game will be televised by Comcast SportsNet, starting with Pregame Live at 6:30.
