Astros coach KO'd during BP
Houston Astros coach Jeff Murphy was carried off the field after being hit by a batting practice protection screen that blew into him during batting practice.
The Astros are playing Wednesday afternoon in Oakland against the A’s. Murphy was throwing batting practice when the screen blew over. The screen struck him in the head and Murphy dropped to his knees and in pain. Murphy looked to have injured his left leg and was carried off the field by Bo Porter and Eduardo Perez.
The screen did not have any sandbags holding it in place, but two sandbags have now been placed to hold the screen in place.
Murphy joined the Astros as their bullpen catcher/catching instructor in 2013. Murphy served in the same role with the St. Louis Cardinals for 12 seasons (2000-11) and was part of the Cards 2006 and 2011 Word Series Championship clubs.
