The Astros roster got a shakeup on Wednesday when the team claimed infielder Ryan Jackson off of waivers from the Cardinals. The Astros also announced that infielder Jake Elmore had been claimed off waivers by the Chicago White Sox, pitcher John Ely had been released and outfielder J.D. Martinez was outrighted to Oklahoma City.
With Wednesday’s moves, the Astros 40-man roster now sits at 34 players.
Jackson hit .278 with 34 RBIs and a .352 on-base percentage in 121 games last year for the Cardinals triple-A affiliate in Nashville. He did have two short stints with St. Louis in 2013 and played in seven games.
Elmore hit .242 with a pair of home runs and six RBIs in 52 games with the Astros last year.
Martinez hit .250 with seven homers and 36 RBIs in 86 games with Houston in 2013. The outfielder has 24 home runs and 126 RBIs in 252 games with the Astros since making his Major League debut with the team in July of 2011.
