Astros acquire Guzman for Jackson

The Astros acquired first baseman/outfielder Jesus Guzman from the Padres in exchange for infielder Ryan Jackson on Wednesday.

Guzman, 29, played in 126 games for the Padres last year. Guzman hit .226 last season with 17 doubles and 35 RBIs. He started at four different positions: first base, left field, right field and third base. He led the majors with 14 RBIs and a pinch-hitter.

In 334 games, Guzman is a .259 hitter with 23 home runs and 127 RBIs. The righty has been considerably better against lefties, batting .286 against them in his career.

Jackson, 25, was claimed off waivers by the Astros on Nov. 20. He played in seven games withthe Cardinals last season but spent most of the year in Triple A.

The Astros' 40-man roster is at 40.
