Alex White headed to 60-day disabled list
For the second day in a row, an Astros player has landed on the disabled list.
Right-handed pitcher Alex White, who left Friday’s game after just one inning, was placed on the 60-day disabled list after undergoing an MRI on his right elbow.
He is scheduled to get a second opinion in the next 48 hours and have a treatment plan in place by Monday or Tuesday. Neither the team nor White would speculate on whether surgery would be needed for what is being called an elbow strain.
White had battled to the last week for the final spot in the Astros starting rotation and finished the spring with a 1-1 record and 7.14 ERA.
The Astros recalled Edgar Gonzalez to take White’s place on the 25-man roster. The Astros also had to send outfielder Fernando Martinez to the 15-day DL with an oblique strain.
