GM Daryl Morey on landing Howard
The Rockets have landed the biggest free agent in the world.
Dwight Howard is coming to Houston.
Howard announced his decision to come to Houston via Twitter:
“I've decided to become a member of the Houston Rockets. I feel its the best place for me and I am excited about joining the Rockets and I'm looking forward to a great season. I want to thank the fans in Los Angeles and wish them the best."
Howard is a seven-time All Star who has led the league in rebounding five times. This includes last season with the Lakers, when he averaged 17.1 points to go with his 12.4 rebounds. Howard has also twice led the league in blocked shots. Free agents can officially begin signing on July 10.
Also, shortly before 10 p.m. on Friday night, Howard changed his Twitter avatar picture to him wearing a Rockets jersey and changed his Twitter location to Houston, Texas.
"I think Dwight's in a great place in his career," general manager Daryl Morey said to CSNHouston."He's focused on winning and we give him the best chance to win. It's that simple."
The Rockets put on the full-court press for the former Laker big man. The team brass traveled to Los Angeles last weekend as a part of their courtship, a courtship that ultimately proved victorious.
The Rockets beat out the Lakers, Mavericks, Hawks and Warriors to win the services of Howard.
