In addition to guard Pat Beverley, the Rockets had an extra body at Saturday’s shootaround as they prepared for the Milwaukee Bucks.

The team has recalled forward Robert Covington from Houston’s single-affiliation NBA D-League partner Rio Grande Valley, general manager Daryl Morey announced on Saturday. Covington (6-9, 215, Tennessee State) was assigned to the Vipers on Nov. 6 and has averaged 21.0 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.48 steals and 1.33 blocks in 21 games (started all 21). Through Jan. 17, he ranks 10th in the D-League in scoring (21.0 ppg) and second in steals per game (2.48).

As a member of the Rockets 2013 Orlando Pro Summer League, Covington averaged 12.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.40 steals in five games (two starts). Undrafted in the 2013 NBA Draft, he averaged 14.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks in 118 career games over four seasons at Tennessee State.
