Know Your Foe: Rockets-Pelicans

The Pelicans won on Friday night against the Denver Nuggets, giving them their first win of the season over a team with a winning record. They are now 1-11 in such games. The Rockets are 20-11 and 12 -4 at home. Houston is coming off back-to-back victories against San Antonio on Wednesday and Memphis on Thursday.

The Rockets beat the Grizzlies, 100-92, despite trailing by 13 points in the second half and getting just two points from Dwight Howard, who was in foul trouble and didn’t play at all in the final 19:52 of the game.

Houston won three of four from New Orleans last season and has won four straight over the Pelicans in Houston.

Who are the Pelicans?

New Orleans is just 13-14 on the season, but 7-4 in the 11 games that leading scorers Ryan Anderson (20.2 ppg) and Anthony Davis (19.2 ppg) have both played. This will be the fifth straight game they will have played in together after Davis missed seven games with a broken left hand.

Anderson is among the league’s best 3-point shooters at 42.9 percent on the season and is the best free-throw shooter in the league. He’s missed just one of his 50 free throw attempts this season (49-50, 98 percent). However, in his last four games, he’s played 150 minutes and has not attempted a single free throw.

Davis leads the league with 3.2 blocks per game and is 11th in the league in rebounds per game (10.1). He’s also fifth in the league in player efficiency rating at 27.13, trailing only LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Kevin Love and Chris Paul.

Pelicans Last Game:

Guard Tyreke Evans led the Pelicans with 19 points and 10 assists in their win Friday night against the Nuggets, 105-89. Anderson also had 16 points and ten rebounds. Evans has recorded a double-double in three of hi last four games. Guard Eric Gordon missed the game with a sore hip and is listed as day-to-day. ‘Yeah, he’s got a deep contusion on his rear, so to speak.’’ Pelicans head coach Monty Williams said about Gordon’s injury.
