The Rockets will have to cool off a pair of hot hands in their first two games of 2013. New Orleans Hornets guard Greivis Vasquez and Milwaukee Bucks guard Monta Ellis were named the NBA’s Players of the Week.
Both had a very happy holiday season. Vasquez averaged 21 points and 10 assists in the Hornets’ three games since Christmas, while Ellis poured in 21.3 points, 8.3 assists and 4 steals in the Bucks’ three games. Ellis also had five steals apiece in Milwaukee’s wins over Brooklyn and Miami.
For the Rockets, they’ll also have to deal with Vasquez’s backcourt mate Eric Gordon. Gordon returned to the court for the first time this season for New Orleans Saturday night and made the most of his 25 minutes by scoring 24 points. Gordon’s presence helped the Hornets erase a 21-point, first-half deficit to Charlotte to rally for a 98-95 win over the Bobcats.
