The Rockets entered the 2014 NBA draft with two selections to make, but finished the night with three new players.

After selecting Clint Capela from Switzerland with the 25th pick and Nick Johnson from Arizona with the 42nd pick, Houston sent cash to Minnesota for the rights to the 53rd pick, Alessandro Gentile, a small forward in the Italian League.

It was uncertain where expectations rest on whether Gentile would join the team this season or even for summer league as Rockets general manager Daryl Morey indicated he had not yet had a chance to speak with Gentile's agent to put together their plans for the future. Morey was appreciative of Rockets owner Leslie Alexander spending  the money to add Gentile.

"Mr. Alexander is spending money again to make the team better," Morey said. "I feel like we have two guys in Nick Johnson, very accomplished player who could come in and potentially crack our rotation," Morey said. "Gentile is a guy who could crack our rotation."

"He's (Gentile) is playing in the Italian League finals, he's on the best team in Italy, it's a Euroleague at the highest levels of Europe," Morey said. "He's team captain at 22 (he actually will not turn 22 until November according to the NBA draft guide), and this is a team full of mostly (older players). He can attack the basket, can pass, has the size to defend. Really, really productive player, somebody for sure we think could help us in the future."

Gentile has spent five seasons in the Italian Serie A League, starting his career there at age 18. He became the youngest player in the Italian League playoff history to score at least 20 points per game in 2008-09 as an 18-yea-old. Gentile is also a member of the Italian national team.
