The Rockets had a chance to further solidify their playoff standing before the All-Star Break. It didn't happen.
Houston lost 117-111 to the Kings on Sunday evening.
Coming into the contest, the Rockets had a golden opportunity to establish themselves in sole possession of the seventh spot in the West. The Jazz had lost the previous night. The Lakers and Blazers had each lost earlier on Sunday afternoon. The Rockets were coming off a standings-changing win over the Blazers on Friday evening.
However, all that momentum came to a screeching halt against the previously 18-33 Kings. And with that, the Rockets sink back to sole possession of the 8th spot, still two games up on Portland instead of three.
