Sampson on filling in for McHale

Kevin McHale is taking an immediate leave of absence from the Rockets to attend to a personal family matter, the team announced Saturday.

Assistant coach Kelvin Sampson becomes the interim head coach in McHale's absence.

From the Rockets' press release, Daryl Morey said the following:

"Kevin is a devoted family man who is needed back home in Minnesota at the moment," the Rockets' GM said. "The Rockets organization will keep Kevin and his family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

Sampson has top-notch college head-coaching experience on his resume, which includes stops at Oklahoma and Indiana.
