Lin's favorite Lunar New Year memories (Chinese)
In this edition of the Mandarin Minute, Jeremy Lin AKA 林書豪 talks about his favorite Lunar New Year memories.
Due to the fact the Rockets will be travelling around (they're travelling on the 9th and playing at Sacramento on the 10th), the team will hold its Lunar New Year game Saturday night against the Bobcats. Fans can purchase ticket packages that include hot dogs, sodas and a postgame meet-and-greet with Jeremy Lin. There will also be a dragon performance on the concourse before the game.
When asked what his favorite Lunar New Year memory was, Lin said, "Just spending time with family, the pot lucks. It's pretty much always the same every year. Just get a group of my parents' close friends, family friends, a lot of the aunties and uncles that I grew up with."
But as a kid, how about those red envelopes, known as "hong bao's" in Mandarin?
"Definitely!" Lin responded excitedly. "Every kid looks forward to the hong bao's. You're always wondering how much is in each hong bao. You hope a lot of the aunties give them to you, but we're a little older now, so we're not expecting any of that. I probably have to start giving them out soon to my little cousins and stuff."
Lunar New Year tradition includes the handing out of the hong bao's, which are usually filled with different amounts of money.
The actual date of Lunar New Year for 2013 is February 10.
