Highlights: Rockets erase deficit, beat Grizzlies
For three quarters in Memphis, the Houston Rockets were totally frustrated on offense. That is typical of their recent trips to Memphis, where they had lost five straight. But the fourth quarter was anything but typical as the Rockets scored 38 points in the final period to complete a comeback from 14 points down to win, 93-86.
The game included the Rockets' lowest scoring second quarter of the season with just 12 points and their lowest scoring first half of the season with just 32. They had not been held under 40 points in a first half yet this season.
The 38-point fourth quarter was keyed by the bench, led by Omri Casspi, who had 11 of his 16 points in the period. Chandler Parsons was 4-of-4 in the final quarter and led the Rockets with 17 points.
Big O was big
Omer Asik was large off the bench tonight. He came into the game with 2:07 remaining in the third quarter and would not come out again. He grabbed 10 rebounds in the game, including seven in the second half. Houston outscored Memphis by 14 points during Asik's 14:07 on the court in the second half. It was his first double figure rebounding effort since the second game of the season.
Highlight of the night
Francisco Garcia has been struggling but was a huge reason why the Rockets won tonight. He had a steal and run out with the Rockets up just two points, 67-65, but he missed the reverse layup. However, Asik was trailing on the fast break and easily grabbed the ball and dropped it in for his only bucket of the night.
The game was over when...
When Chandler Parsons hit a 3-pointer in the corner off a nice inbounds play, then he followed a Mike Miller 3-pointer with a nice drive to the basket for a lay-up that put the Rockets up 90-82 with just 59 seconds left.
The Rockets return home following the short one-game road trip to face the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night. Houston has won the last five meetings between the two teams and three in a row in Houston. James Harden averaged 36.5 points per game against the Hawks last year in the Rockets' two victories.
