Howard, Parsons celebrate with George Ranch
When in Texas, do as the Texans do. And on a weekend night in the fall that means high school football.
That's exactly what Rockets players Chandler Parsons and Dwight Howard did, catching Thursday's game between George Ranch and Richmond Foster. The pair stood in the front row, right in the thick of George Ranch's student section, celebrating with the fans as the Longhorns made big plays on the field.
"It's a lot of fun," Howard said. "It's like going to a small college football game. We're having a good time. The kids are great, so it's a lot of fun."
Both Howard and Parsons were invited by fans on Twitter to attend the game.
"Someone tweeted me and asked me to come to their game," Howard said. "I told them I'd try and we made it up. So that's how it happened.
"We're just having fun, man," he added. "The kids are having fun. We're having fun. And it's all positive."
This was also the first time Parsons was checking out Texas high school football. Coming from a football-rich state like Florida, he had good perspective on what makes Texas stand out.
"This is way better," Parsons said. "I love Florida, but the crowd, the atmosphere, is way better here in Texas.
"This is crazy. the crowd is unbelievable. We just came out here. Dwight and I just came out here to have fun and see what it's all about."
There must be something to having the big guys on your side, George Ranch won the game 45-21.
