Just before Dwight Howard slipped away from reporters on Friday afternoon, he was asked if he had been to any Texans games since he’s been in town.

“I haven’t but I heard they’re looking for a quarterback,” said a smiling Howard. “I’m just kidding. I’m just kidding. Matt (Schaub), it’s just a joke. The Texans are my team. They started off a little slow but it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.

“And I’m going to ride with the Texans to the end. I think they’re going to get it right. I just think as a community, we have to stick behind our teams. We’re going to have our bad games. We’re going to have our bad moments. That happens. The best thing our community can do is stick behind the players and push them.”

The Texans are 2-2 and Schaub, the quarterback, has come under fire recently after throwing pick-6s in three straight games. The last pick-6 was returned 58 yards for the game-tying touchdown last Sunday in a game they lost in overtime. Fans have been extra critical of Schaub and at least one even burned his jersey after the game.

“If you’re a Texans fan, you can’t be burning jerseys,” he said. “You gotta stick with our boys. That’s all we got, baby. H-town.”
