Highlights: Rockets take down Celtics
The Rockets started quickly, withstood some Celtics' runs, and thanks to some big shots down the stretch, held on for a big win over Boston 101-89. The offense pushed the pace as McHale has preached. Greg Smith had a downright huge game off the Rockets bench with 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting, six rebounds and three blocks. James Harden and Chandler Parsons also combined for 36 points.
With just over four minutes left, the Rockets led 88-83, with the game very much in doubt. Houston chose that time to have an ugly offensive possession, but James Harden bailed the team out with a long, desperate, shot-clock buzzer-beating three to put the Rockets up 91-83. The Celtics were never the same and that shot seemed to energiz the Rockets the rest of the way.
From the field
The Rockets shot 37-for-76 from the field -- 49 percent. From the land o' plenty, they shot 10-of-27.
At the line
The Rockets were decent here. They shot 17-for-23 (.739 percent) for the game.
Omer Asik had several nice early dunks set up by Jeremy Lin. James Harden did his usual, crowd-pleasing two-handed throwdown. Among his many hoops, Smith threw in a few nice dunks himself. Harden also set up Asik on a nice no-look dish.
The Rockets play a rare Sunday game when they travel up north to take on the Raptors. Houston beat Toronto 117-101 on Nov. 27, and that was a Raptors team that had Andrea Bargnani (he's hurt right now).
