The Rockets are celebrating Clutch the Bear's birthday with the fans on Friday evening.
The first 3000 fans attending the Rockets game that night against the Timberwolves will receive a special Clutch the Bear slapwatch courtesy of Children's Memorial Hermann. But this is only a part of the festivities.
Clutch will be joined by eight other mascots in the celebration. Also in attendance: Orbit (Houston Astros), Dynamo Diesel (Houston Dynamo), Chilly (Houston Aeros), Mini Clutch, Crunch (Timberwolves), Blaze (Blazers), Bear (Jazz), and Grizz (Grizzlies). They will perform a halftime act.
Before the game, the mascots will also be part of a pregame party from 6:15-6:45 in the Memorial Hermann Sky Court. The first 200 fans there will receive a poster signed by all the mascots.
In his time with the Rockets, Clutch has been named the NBA's Mascot of the Year (2005) and was also given the NBA Mascot Leadership Award in 2009. He's in the Mascot Hall of Fame. Of course, Red Nation fans think of him more for all of his hijinx, whether they be on the floor or in the stands. Clutch has been known to throw a cake or two in opposing fans' faces (in good fun). He's also know for making ridiculous over-the-back halfcourt heaves. These are just a few examples of what makes Clutch clutch.
Bottom line: Clutch is loveable. Clutch is a fan favorite. And on Friday night, the fans will get a chance to join in the celebration and possibly get a distinct Clutch the Bear slapwatch while they're at it!
