Rockets center Greg Smith underwent an exploratory arthroscopic knee surgery on Wednesday to repair a medial meniscus tear and to examine changes to ligament structures in his right knee. Smith is out indefinitely.

Smith returned from the all-star break expecting to be ready to play. He did practice with the team early on the road trip, but experienced more soreness in the knee and flew back to Houston to seek more medical attention.

Smith played in just seven games after initially injuring his knee on Nov. 14 against the Knicks. Smith has missed 36 games since suffering the injury.
