When Rockets starting point guard Pat Beverley broke his hand in Detroit versus the Pistons on December 21, the initial word was surgery was needed and he’d miss four-to-six weeks of action. Surgery was successful and it’s approaching the fourth full week since the injury occurred. So naturally Beverley is saying he expects to be back very soon.
“I went to the doctor (on Monday) and he said I’ll be back very soon,” Beverley told SportsTalk 790 on Tuesday, during his weekly radio appearance. “I’m playing before the 22nd, so that’s good news. I’m pretty excited about that.”
Beverley said he’s stepped up his rehabilitation, lifting weights, dribbling and trying to get his hand right. He said he has been shooting for a couple of days.
“I think the whole medical staff has done a great job,” Beverley said.” It’s healing pretty well. I understand this is a work in progress, but we’re going to take it slow and go from there. From what I’m hearing from the doctors, everything is good to go. We’ll get some practice time and see how it goes with that.”
The Rockets play in New Orleans on Wednesday, then have a five-game home-stand beginning the next night against Oklahoma City. They also host Milwaukee on Saturday and Portland on Monday before January 22. We’ll soon see if Beverley has his return date pegged correctly.
